After getting tired of paying $30-40 for Blu-ray imports, I’ve streamed my first Amazon Prime movie last night.
The movie itself ( - forgive the typically generic English name “Shock Wave”) is a pretty decent watch. Won some local awards in 2017, and lots of urban eye candy for the city nerds.
Bomb disposal is a fairly relevant thing in Hong Kong as un-exploded American WWII ordnance is routinely found buried in construction sites. Terrorism, however, has not really been a thing there and that’s where this movie stretches way the hell into fiction.
Movie trailer for your time:

How long until Andy Lau starts doing Troy McCl ure- style infomercials?

I know, but it’s funny to imagine him walking onto a infomercial set and whipping out a random - yet-related - movie title.

I love this movie. I actually bought it on Blu-Ray a few months ago. They did a US printing so it was only $20.

If you haven’t seen it Chongqing Hot Pot is on Prime. I was about to import that before I saw it on Prime.

Bonus for me is my parents’ current place is literally a block away with a view of the tunnel entrance.
Rather than block the actual tunnel, they built a
1:1 replica of the entrance
for the movie
. Oh wait, you have the Blu-Ray, you’ve probably seen the behind-the-scenes videos.

Actually I haven’t checked out any of the bonus stuff yet. Thanks for the reminder. I’ll pop it in some night soon. I’ve tried but my wife just can’t keep up with subtitled Asian movies so I basically have to find time on my own for them.

Also I’m totally jealous of your parents right now. I’ve never been to Hong Kong but it is pretty high on my bucket list.

I was wrong; the tunnel entrance itself is blocked by this stadium. They aren’t on a high enough floor to see right behind the thing. Taken just this spring when we were in town.
